Today’s Sea
The Ocean is so vast, as far as you can see
Waves, blues grey and whites
Stretch from horizon to horizon with nothing in between
The ship is like a slow moving story, each chapter similar but unique
The waves are the sentences, the whitecaps the exclamation points
Looking down into the sea, passing over who knows what
The depths hide their secrets, revealed to only a few
The sea is a mirror, duplicating what is above
Not as smooth as the sky but almost as clear
Broken only by the wind that was here yesterday
Or arrives tomorrow as its messenger
Bringing peace or anger will shape the surface
To whatever suits its fancy but will define its destiny
As well as those who accompany it on this journey
As night approaches the future and the past merges into one
From orange to red to pink, ultimately black
A few lingering clouds reveal what was here
Indistinguishable from each other as the surface and sky combine
Bring completeness to the process, at least for now
The sun sets far away and in an instant almost darkness
Until tomorrow when it resumes this journey again
